LIVE AT THE SHOWCASE THEATHER

Hirax started off with “Demons Evil Forces.” The volume from the amps was set at 11. The whole crowd of new fans and old fans started going nuts as soon as the band started. The second song was “The Plague” the energy from the crowd and the band was insane. but during the set,…just like in the early days, 1985…Hirax has always had people who stage dived, slam danced or whatever. Things got a little wild and sombody dove. Somebody was in the pit that shouldn’t have been, I guess they got hit too hard and a fight broke out. We quickly stoped it and Katon told everybody how lame fighting really is. We do not tolerate that kind of shit at our shows, and never will. If you want to fight, go join the army. People, please remember…if you come to a Hirax show it’s a cross between a metal show and a punk show. Head banging, fist banging, slam pits and stage diving. If you can’t handle it- get to the back. Hirax resumed it’s set with “Destroy”- The crowd began to sing the words. Everybody was having a great time. the band introduced a new song next, “Slit Your Wrist” an anti suicide song. It was amazing. It was the first time the band had ever played this song and the crowd acted like they had known it for years. It went over very well. Next up, another debut, “El Diablo Negro” with its very heavy mid section, or as they call it amongst Hirax fans, ultra-heavy. This song seemed to put the crowd into a coma. Everybody stood there in amazement. Or maybe they just needed to rest…”Slit Your Wrist” is VERY fast and it never lets up, no slow parts at all. At the end of “El Diablo Negro” the crowd response was very vocal. They loved it. Then it was time to play some old classics: starting off “Hate, Fear and Power” with a wild guitar solo, Greg Eickmier. During the song all the kids in the front row chanted out the lyrics. Gary Monardo on bass went straight into “Blind Faith.” Drummer John Taberes played incredibly solid through the whole set. The thrashing continued. Taking a small break, Katon W DePena thanked the crowd for coming out. A very nice turn out. The attendance was great, even with having Ozzfest on the same night, the club was still packed. Closing the set with “Bombs of Death” was awesome. The club went completely nuts! Hirax has the best fans in the world. Response wise the show was incredible. The band was a little bit rusty, but it didn’t matter. Now that the first show is under Hirax’s belt the band will concentrate on more touring and recording. Hirax will see you on tour 2000-2001!
